Future combat ship drive systems are likely to use Siemens podded drives. They provide several obvious advantages. 1) unprecedented 360 degree maneuverability, don't even need tugs to dock 2) no vulnerable drive shaft or rudder 3) redundant systems (assuming at least two pods) 4) damaged pods can be replaced in a couple of days and repaired ashore.
